The Danish word "hygge", pronounced something like "hooga" is the latest word on every interior stylists lips at the moment, there is no equivalent english word, so it is often described as more of a feeling, it's that fuzzy feeling of contentment, it may be when you're enjoying good food and wine with family and friends, when you kiss your kids goodnight, when you light a candle and open a bottle of wine or taking in a beautiful view, it's when happiness and contentment collide and all feels right with the world.
Danish interiors have always been revered and admired since the mid 20th century, they have defined and influenced design on a global scale. Here are some of my favourite designers, Arne Jacobsen, Finn Juhl, Berge Mogensen, Kaare Klint, Cecilie Manz, Poul Henningsen and Grethe Meyer. All these designers have brought a bit of "hygge" into the world, making the spaces we live in important to our well being, our contentment and ultimately our happiness. House Doctor are carrying on the Danish design philosophy, creating beautiful and functional objects for our home, helping to make us all feel a bit more "hygge" in our lifes.
